Road Safety Audit on Petchakasem Rd. Patthalung Province

โครงการตรวจสอบความปลอดภัยทางถนนบนถนนเพชรเกษม จังหวัด พัทลุง
Sponsor:  Toyota Motors Thailand, Co.Ltd
Status:  Completed
Project period:  2007

In November, 2006, an employee of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. visited Pattalung by taking Petchakasem Road from Hat Yai. He faced a serious crash at the highway bridge, after negotiating the curve at 20th km, and then suffered fatality on the way to hospital. The causes of the crash had not been summarized by police. Nevertheless, the Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., staffs and Budget Car Rental staffs had documented the issues related to the crash.  Road environment was thought of as one of potential factors leading to such accident.

This was not the first fatal accident case reported at that location. There have been several other crashes with fatalities and injuries for years, and it is commonly said by local people as a dangerous curve. Given that social contribution is a major management policy of the company, the Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. as a private sector aims to play a part in providing safety environment for all road users, which could in turn avoid any further accident, by requesting Thailand Accident Research Center (TARC) to perform a “Road Safety Audit” at the location of Khun Pornthep’s crash at 20th km. Petchakasem Road.
